LEGO Island 2: Bricktser's Revenge (PS1) review

Anyone remember when Travelers Tales didn't make LEGO games. I do. I never played many of them except for a few. One being first tie-in game I thought was terrible and LEGO Island 2, for PS1 and Gameboy Color. I might talk about the GBC version later but lets talk about the PS1 version.
Story
Its very basic. You are Pepper Roni, Brickster escapes, destroys the island, you must go stop him and fix the island. There's nothing special about the plot, other than you get to go to other themed  sets of the time(Knights Kingdom, Adventurers, Space).  While I do like the island yo go to, you stay there for very long and they are just there to go to more mini-games. It's also not that long. Maybe four hours, maybe five.
Gameplay
The game is an adventure in a very basic way. You just go from location to location and either go a mini-game or talk to someone for a few seconds. There are vehicles you can ride in like a boat, car, helicopter or horse. While these should be fun, the ride is very short and you won't have to use again unless you want to go to an island that can only be access through that vehicle. I must also add that that turning is very sensitive. Just going left or right well send Pepper going almost 90 degrees and can be very annoying. As for the mini games, I can sum each of them with one sentence per game. I know that's spoilish but the games are in the manual.
Whack-a-bot: Start's being  fun, then becomes frustrating.
Brick Dive: A nice little level with lovely music.
Joust: Very annoying.
Raging Bull: A fun boss fight.
Snake Pursuit: Simple but at least enjoyable.
Whack-a-Snake: A whacking game that's fun.
Matching Mummies: Stick o the sides.
Desert Speedster: I hate driving.
Bi-Plane: I like shooting bananas.
T-Rex racing: You can beat it without changing lanes.
Mr.Hates Camp: A rescue mission boss fight.
Centrifuge: A very high learning curse for a very simple game.
Asteroid Belt:Less moves, more points.
Make-a-d-Pizza: Watch Papa, then throw.
Brickster's Palace: Disappointing final level and boss.
Presentation
Music wise, it nice. There are some good tracks in this game, like the diving music, the main menu, the island themes. the voice acting is questionable as the actors themselves are okay, there are some weird voice direction as some voice are way quieter than they should be. Like when you get to Castle Island, the guy in front says huzzah very quietly.
As for graphic... they are a mixed bag. animations are slow except for you and quality of the graphics are low such as when the camera is away from you, you look like crap. some of the buildings don't look good either, mainly the castles as they look like crap.
My Verdict
This game wasn't as good as I remembered. While I did enjoy the minigames and most of the puns, there's no denying the main story is very bland, and there's nothing in many of these island.
4.5/10
